Geological Family Attractions

https://d3oomqi9g2h12e.cloudfront.net/wp-content/uploads/2021/06/10115919/5-geological-attractions-v2.mp4 Geological Family Attractions The western White Mountains are home to some of the best natural geological features in New England. When the glaciers melted during the last Ice Age over 50,000 years ago, they carved out much of the White Mountains as we know it today. As the glaciers receded, they deposited granite boulders creating caves in many places across the Lincoln and Woodstock area. Today, you can discover the natural beauty that Mother Nature created during the last Ice Age at places like the Lost River Gorge & Boulder Caves, and the Flume Gorge. Lost River Gorge & Boulder Caves Located in the heart of Kinsman Notch in North Woodstock, the Lost River Gorge & Boulder Caves is a popular natural geological attraction for all ages to enjoy. Formed over 300 million years ago during the last Ice Age, Lost River Gorge is filled with blocks of granite, boulder caves, and waterfalls. Open daily from May through October; there are tons of things to see and do at Lost River Gorge. While visiting the Gorge and caves during the day is pretty cool, discovering them by night is a whole new experience! During the summer months, you can ...

Cubicle Concerts: Bad Lab

College bands shapeshift as swiftly as Gremlins devouring a midnight feast. It's only natural. Social groups change, people develop new passions, lose interest in old ones, transfer schools, lose themselves, find themselves anew; nearly every aspect of a 19-year-old's life exists in a constant state of flux. What's amazing, then, is how quickly some college bands not only develop a sound and an identity, but solidify that into a reputation, regular gigging and an avid fanbase. Just look at Bad Lab. The Seacoast-based hip-hop band — featuring Anthony LiPetri, on guitar; Nathan Marks, on bass; Jordan Grant, on drums; and Nick Paris, aka Baby Spoons, rapping — formed only last October, and already have a sound, style and ethos briskly losing oxygen in a stranglehold. That's probably because all four members, all under 23 years old and students at the University of New Hampshire, possess rare ambition and a cavernous musical knowledge. Marks and Grant both play in a hodgepodge of bands of varying genres; LiPetri, the youngest member, displays precocious control on the guitar; and Paris, as MC, wields a gravitational stage presence and deep reverence for the craft. A student of '90s New York hip-hop, the cheekily-named Baby ...

Home to the world-famous Franconia Ridge, Lonesome Lake, Old Man of the Mountain, Flume Gorge, and countless miles of recreational hiking and biking trails, there are many reasons why so many people flock to the Western White Mountains to recreate. The Appalachian Trail crosses through our quaint towns in numerous places, leading to a vibrant hiking community formed by both locals and visitors. Please note that trailhead parking can be challenging, and inexperience paired with unpredictable weather has led to many tragedies over the years. The most important part of planning a hike in the Western White Mountains, regardless of the season, is being prepared. Always have a back up plan, and always do your research ahead of your visit. Be Prepared The White Mountains Attraction Association, along with the White Mountain National Forest, has created a Winter Hiking in the White Mountains resource as well as a 10 Essentials Gear List that all hikers should be familiar with prior to hitting the trails, ...

Hike Safe, Leave No Trace

Is there anything more soothing to the soul than nature? It has inspired poets, has been the meditative escape of world leaders, and hiking in it is a recreation choice that serves all people from casual walkers to extreme athletes (depending on the difficulty).  “Some old-fashioned things like fresh air and sunshine are hard to beat.” – Laura Ingalls Wilder “My wish is to stay always like this, living quietly in a corner of nature.” – Claude Monet “The poetry of the earth is never dead.” – John Keats “The spiritual uplift, the goodwill, cheerfulness and optimism that accompanies every expedition to the outdoors is the peculiar spirit that our people need in times of suspicion and doubt…No other organized joy has values comparable to the outdoor experience.” – Herbert Hoover To be sure, nature, particularly the kind that can be found when hiking in the White Mountains region, is something grand to experience, but before you lace up your boots and fill your backpack, consider these helpful tips on how to help preserve nature and yourself.  SAFETY hikeSafe and Hike Safe Cards The hikeSafe is a program provided by The NH Fish and Game Department and the White Mountain ...

OCEAN’S EDGE REAL ESTATE

You might be wondering—what’s been on our minds lately relative to the market? The top questions we are hearing this Spring are “Should I buy a home this year?” or “Does it still make sense to list my property?“ A vast number of resources exist for consumers that educate on the real estate market and aim to forecast future happenings. We always encourage our clients to seek such resources if they are soinclined, and welcome any input they may have! Based on our own experience in the local market, our take on today’s buying and selling environment remains optimistic. Recent mortgage rate volatility has indeed left consumers with a certain level of vigilance as the Seacoast forecasts the housing market for the remainder of the year. As we continue to see a shortage of move-in ready homes for sale, it is anticipated that prices will essentially hold fast as there remains steady demand for inventory in the Seacoast New Hampshire and Southern Maine regions. Given this current landscape, it is more important than ever to seek representation from experienced Realtors who are closely acquainted with the local market and can best guide you along your buying or selling process. Take ...

Forever Young: Laconia Motorcycle Weeks Turns 100

Deputy Director Jennifer Anderson and Executive Director Charlie St. Clair on their bikes near Weirs Beach. Motorcycle Week in Laconia has evolved over the past century, growing a bit mellower as the average age of participants has increased along with demands for creature comforts and family-friendly entertainment. This year a lot of the guests at Motorcycle Week will be contemplating the past as the event embraces its status as a centenarian. But some things are fundamental. This 100th year's event will still offer thousands of guests a chance to contemplate the crazy world from a seat atop a huge metal machine that roars to life at the touch of the starter, and roams effortlessly on New Hampshire pitched and rolling backroads in search of scenery and camaraderie.  Regarding the past, Charlie St. Clair has a lot of it to contemplate. He's been executive director of the organization since 1991. He says his first Motorcycle Week memory dates back to the 1950s when the annual parade passed just a couple of blocks from his house. Bikers who might have traveled from hundreds of miles to get there early would wind up congregating in the downtown area. “The night before the parade, ...
