Wolfeboro’s Pickering House Inn Named Top Resort in U.S./New England in Travel + Leisure World’s Best Awards 2022
Wolfeboro, NH – July 13, 2022 – Pickering House Inn, a boutique luxury inn located in the heart of Wolfeboro, has been named #1 Resort Hotel in the United States, #1 in New England, and #4 in the World in the prestigious Travel + Leisure World’s Best Awards 2022 readers’ survey. The 2022 honors mark the second consecutive year that the four-year-old inn has been recognized by Travel + Leisure readers. In 2021, Pickering House Inn was also ranked as the top resort hotel in New England.
The annual awards program recognizes the top hotels, islands, cities, cruise lines, airlines, spas and more around the globe, based on the results of the Travel + Leisure World’s Best Awards readers’ survey. Readers rated hotels on the following characteristics: rooms/facilities, location, service, food and value.
Owners Peter and Patty Cooke opened Pickering House Inn in 2018 to offer a world-class hospitality experience that is also intimate, unpretentious, and welcoming. A two-year renovation of the landmark Pickering homestead and attached barn retained the property’s historic charm while incorporating a fresh, contemporary design and top-of-the-line guest amenities. Pickering House Inn also offers a popular series of reservation-only farm table dinners and tasting events in The Barn at Pickering House. Dining events showcase the talents of the inn’s own culinary staff, as well as those of guest chefs. Menus are created to feature ingredients from local farms, breweries, distilleries and other area purveyors.
In December 2020, the Cookes joined with Chef Jonathan Hudak to open the 52-seat PAVILION Restaurant with additional private dining and outdoor dining spaces in the historic building located next door to Pickering House Inn. In 2022, REVIVAL Massage & Wellness opened on the second and third floors of the same building, creating an upscale enclave at the gateway to downtown Wolfeboro. The restaurant, spa and special dining events in The Barn at Pickering House add to the guest experience while providing exceptional dining and relaxation options to the community.
The Cookes say that being named by Travel + Leisure as the # 1 Resort Hotel in both the United States and New England is amazing validation for a journey that began out of a desire to save a historic property from the wrecking ball. “We had a vision for what this property could be and we are so honored that our guests agree that we have created a special place,” comments Patty Cooke. She says that being named by Travel + Leisure as the # 1 Resort Hotel in both the United State and New England has surpassed the couple’s wildest expectations. “We are so honored that our guests took the time to share their experiences and that we are ranked among the most exceptional properties in the world,” she comments. “A recent guest told us they have traveled all over the world and that a stay at the Pickering House Inn ‘is nothing short of magnificent.’ To us, reviews like this validate all we have worked for – and is testimony to the dedication of our exceptional staff. During a challenging time for the hospitality industry, our staff never wavered in their commitment to what we call ‘The Pickering Experience.’ It is so wonderful to share this remarkable honor with our guests, staff and everyone who had a role in creating Pickering House Inn.”
