The 2021 edition of The Best of NH Party, at the Canterbury Shaker Village, will be the first since the COVID-19 pandemic altered things a year ago.
“We cannot wait to finally party in person again,” says Rick Broussard, editor of New Hampshire Magazine. “We’ve been celebrating all the best in New Hampshire for 20 years now, and this year’s Best of NH Party has been completely re-imagined.”
To start with, this year’s celebration will feature the first-ever Granite State Humor Summit. NH-based comedians Rebecca Rule and Fred Marple will face off for laughs during a three-course dinner followed by a live music performance by Fee & The Evolutionists for an evening filled with great prizes and surprises.
Here’s a look at what to expect at this year’s Best of NH Party:
Humor Summit: While guests are seated for dinner, NH-based humorists Rebecca Rule and Fred Marple will face off in a comedic battle for the first time ever. Rule has been collecting and telling stories for more than 25 years. She recently published a memoir, “That Reminds Me of a Funny Story: A Memoir, How-to and Compendium of Yankee Humor,” and hosts “Our Hometown” on NHPBS. Marple is a fictional character portrayed by Peterborough humorist and storyteller, Ken Sheldon. Marple founded the fictional town of Frost Heaves, NH, which he also wrote a book and musical about titled “Welcome to Frost Heaves.”
Prizes: On top of a humor-filled evening, one lucky partygoer will have the chance to win a grand prize getaway courtesy of RiverWalk Resort at Loon Mountain, which includes a five-night complimentary stay in a one-bedroom suite with a connecting deluxe studio, dinner for four at La Vista Restaurant, wine tasting for four at Seven Birches Winery and two 60-minute massages at Solstice North Day Spa.
Tours: Along with great food, drinks and prizes, guests will have an opportunity to tour Canterbury Shaker Village, one of the state’s most beautiful historic sites, before the event kicks off.
Music: The Best of NH Party will also feature live music performances by some of the state’s best Celtic musicians for the cocktail hours and, following the Granite State Humor Summit, the New Hampshire-based musicians, Fee & The Evolutionists will spin the sounds of soul and classic hip hop with fresh, original material.
Beneficiary: With New Hampshire Magazine selecting the New Hampshire Food Bank as its 2021 Best of NH Party nonprofit partner, the evening will also benefit the organization. The New Hampshire Food Bank, a program of Catholic Charities New Hampshire, has been working to relieve hunger in the Granite State since 1984 by effectively distributing grocery products and perishable foods, and offering innovative programs through a statewide network of approved agencies in New Hampshire.
Broussard says the evening will honor the authentic spirit of the Granite State with lively entertainment, great food and drinks, history and culture: “It’s going to be a night to remember!”
